The election heat is back .People sitting on the fringes have been swirled into the tornado unleashed. But it is also imperative that newcomers are not carried away by the enthusiasm and forget to judiciously take electorate decisions. It is a season of promises, public posturing unbridled, playing to the gallery and the one making his maiden entry has the privilege of having the extra mileage. This is exactly what AAP has been doing. It has been able to capture the imaginations of the intelligentsia and the crowds alike , with it's uncomplicated approach to electoral politics. The platform provided by Anna was a head start momentum , upon which it had the confidence of the electorates who rightly imposed their faith in the ensuing Delhi election in 2014. Besides forcing discussions on tangible issues concerning the public, it forced political parties to raise political discourse to pertinent public issues rather than dwell on farce concerns. However as it is said... Good agitators need not necessarily be good administrators .. the same is being felt for AAP. It had a golden chance to prove it's model of governance, where public services are delivered unencumbered , undiluted however it squandered away that opportunity. To say that Jan Lok Pal Bill is not being allowed to see the light of the day, cannot be a clinching factor to put Delhi in a state of LG 's rule. Further, issues of administrative procedures were routinely converted to ideologue concerns to satiate anti establishment sentiments deep embedded in the DNA of the top leadership of AAP. By making tall promises of reducing power tariff without undertaking due diligence, blaming the societal degradation on lack of policing, undoing economic liberalization by harping on permanency of jobs as anathema to under performance rather than bringing in efficiency & effectiveness in public delivery. On issues that require deliberations, where people at the helm can only take macro views, the effort of AAP had been to delegate policy making at the lowest level, which shall undo the tenets of public good. If two people especially neighbors cannot amicable settle parking issues, it is too much to expect them to undertake public services. Further, why people will devote time to services when they themselves are struggling to make both the ends meet in the times of inflation.
However AAP had definitely had created fear psychosis in the minds of people who had been fleeing the system for too long. AAP tenure had shaken the foundations of inertia, inefficiency and forced public workers to change track. But in government being honest is not good enough .. the need of the hour is to have deliverance mechanisms. AAP should have atleast made an attempt to change track to move on to next level because only that can bring about emancipation of citizens. Reliance definitely has tweaked system to it's advantage , however the blame must be put on the ministers and bureaucrats who let themselves to be played into their designs. Given a chance, all but few would like to emulate Reliance.. it is just that hey have failed to emulate. But the issue is we cannot let cartels & monopolies dictate market prices. Similar holds true for PSU's who despite utopian social mandates have not delivered or are delivering inefficiently. The need of the hour to have more balanced views and judgements of the issues rather than let be driven by media and public frenzy. It is easy to fan public unrest but not easy to reign in. Every entry should have an exit strategy , sadly the same cannot be said for AAP. I hope with time and with hard experience they shall learn ....
