When the Orwellian Apocalypse 1984 Haunts us

Ever since I read 1984 and began to come to terms with it's relevance I was astonished that despite out faith imbibed in democratic values and the freedom of press , the truth is not far from 1984 Apocalyse . And a glaring example of this is the way the media has been playing subseervient to the government. DD News which is constitutionally under the auspices of Prasar Bhararti has rarely demonstrated its volition on critical issues. Infact playing to the gallery it has always sided with government at the cost of Journalism ethos. And compromise it may be but in the long term the damage it has done to create a public opinion for informed citizens on concocted facts is irreparable. Because despite the flawed nature , the reach it has over the country is just unmatchable and in areas where it is the only mirror of outside world , it is very instrumental in shaping opinions on publc issues. The tenets of democracy have itself been put to test with the pillars of Public Opinion building losing the moral right to disseminate news.
